Makeup App YouCam Debuts Collaboration Series With Makeup Artist Kristofer Buckle

Augmented reality app YouCam Makeup is about to make it a whole lot easier to experiment with beauty, thanks to a killer new collaboration with celebrity makeup artist Kristofer Buckle.

YouCam, if you’re unfamiliar, is a top-rated free smartphone app that uses facial recognition software to give users “true-to-life virtual makeovers” in photos and in real time. Currently, the hundreds of free looks and products in its archives — sort of like a high-tech, customizable smart makeup kit. YouCam’s new collaboration with Kristofer Buckle, which launches today, will add six new fantasy-inspired looks to the app’s beauty catalogue, each running the gamut from totally wearable to unapologetically over-the-top. The makeup pre-sets can be used to spice up selfies or with the app’s live “Makeup Cam,” which allows users to see the looks on themselves in real-time, like looking in a mirror. It’s like test-driving for makeup — without the stressful trip to Sephora (the app even has user-submitted reviews of popular beauty products).

According to Alice Chang, the CEO of YouCam’s parent company, Perfect Corp., the goal of the collab is to inspire YouCam users “to try bold new styles firsthand, and feel more empowered” experimenting with makeup. Similarly, Buckle, who has worked with Blake Lively and Mariah Carey and recently launched his debut beauty collection with QVC, told Allure,

“Makeup is paint. You can paint a soft natural angelic look or create a ferocious aggressive sexy style with the same products, and I’m showing you the fun extreme possibilities with YouCam…[The app] offers a fun and creative form of instant self-expression that simplifies makeup discovery into a single tap.”

He continued, “I look at makeup as an important tool that can help empower people by helping them express on the outside who they really are on the inside, but I also see makeup as entertainment….These looks are intended to inspire and entertain; to use a shape, color combination, or product in a way that you may not have thought possible. Lessons are learned by taking chances, but with this app it can be fun and not scary.”

Buckle’s Fantasy Series for YouCam Makeup launches today. Take a sneak peek at the looks below, and download YouCam on the App Store or at Google Play to test out the fun looks in virtual reality—and IRL.
