Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years, you’ve probably heard about the wonders of coconut oil. Not only is coconut oil natural and nourishing as a superfood, but it’s also fantastic for your skin. If you’re looking for the ultimate natural moisturizer, look no further than coconut oil.
Everyone likes to look and feel great, but if you’re like us, you don’t have time to think about every little thing. That’s why we use curated beauty boxes like the Beautycon Box and it’s also why we only make super simple beauty recipes like this one.
Unfortunately, coconut oil causes some people to break out because their skin is already oily and adding more oil is just a little too much. The great news is that even if you don’t want to use coconut oil on your skin, you can still use it on your lips! With a great coconut scent and a “melt on your lips” texture, this lip gloss recipe is basically irresistible.
So, when we were looking for the perfect ingredient to make our own lip gloss, using coconut oil just made sense. All of the ingredients in this lip gloss recipe are readily available and whipping it up couldn’t be easier. And how great will it be to have a lip gloss with ingredients you can pronounce?
Here’s what you’ll need to make this great gloss:
- Coconut oil – we suggest organic, cold-pressed and unrefined oil
- Your choice of another oil like – jojoba, avocado, olive or argan
- A tub or pot to put your gloss in
- A microwaveable container and something to stir with
- Optional: Some lipstick you can use to tint your gloss
First, gather all of your ingredients. It doesn’t take long to make this gloss at all, so you’ll want to have everything on hand.
Next clean, sterilize and dry your empty container so nothing yucky can grow in there after you’ve filled it with your gloss.
All you have to do now is put your coconut oil and optional lipstick in your microwave save bowl and zap it for 10-30 seconds until the coconut oil is melted and the lipstick is softened, then stir the mixture until it’s completely combined. You can add as much or as little lipstick as you want, just keep in mind that the more you add the less “glossy” the final product will be.
At this point you can add your second oil (side note, my personal favorite is argan oil, but they’re all great!), continue to stir until every lump is gone and your gloss is super smooth. Now transfer the mixture into your container.
Coconut oil actually becomes a liquid when it gets warmer than room temperature, so you’ll want to put your container in the refrigerator for a few minutes to set. You’ll also want to make sure not to leave your gloss anywhere that’s above room temperature, like in your car on a warm day.
Just make sure your finger is clean and then rub it in the gloss and apply to your lips, it’s as easy as that! Now you’ve got a beautiful, natural and nourishing gloss that’s perfect anytime.
