Rainbow Cat Eyeliner Is The Newest Summer Trend & You’ll Want To Try It

Cat eyeliner has the potential to feel a bit played-out once in a while, especially if you flick angles at the corners of your eyes weekly. It’s a classic look, but classic can get boring after awhile. That’s what makes the new rainbow cat eyeliner look so exciting — it takes a traditional beauty look and amps it up in such a way that it completely transforms it. In this case, it took a 1950s staple and threw it straight into the roller-skating disco era of the ’60s and ’70s. You’ll want to put your striped tube socks on right after this, so prepare yourself.

According to Allure, the look is super easy to recreate. “To pull off the high-impact look yourself, first grab an angled brush and an arsenal of heavily pigmented rainbow shadows to meet your Roy G. Biv needs,” Allure reported. While you won’t necessarily need every color in the rainbow,  you will need at least four different shades to pull off this mega-watt look. The more the better, but you can improvise with the kind of shadows you already have in your makeup drawer. And the amazing thing is, Allure said you could do it under a minute. Check out their video to see how to achieve it in your own bathroom mirror.

But once you apply your layers of shadow, how do you keep it firmly in place so it doesn’t melt away in an hour? With such an artistic look, you’ll want to make sure it will stick around all day.

According to Angelo Juliano Jusino, salon owner and makeup artist for 13 years, those precautions won’t be too hard to achieve. “First, I would prime your eye with Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer or Mac Pro paint pot in a soft orchard shade,” Jusino shares in an interview with Bustle. This way the shadow will better adhere to the lid, and it will keep the natural oils of your eye under control.

If you’re curious what kind of shadows would be best for achieving this look, Jusino recommends cream-based palettes. “I would personally use my Makeup For Ever Flash Color Palette. It’s an opaque cream palette with 12 highly pigmented color shades for the eyes, cheeks, and lips. I would apply with a small angled synthetic brush, and for black eyeliner I would use Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner.” Using budge-proof cosmetics definitely helps your vibrant colors stay on all day long.

To finish off the look, Jusino suggested using a setting spray to bulletproof your cat eye. “I would finish with my Mac Pro Translucent Powder and Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray to ensure long lasting results.”

Try those steps at home, and this fabulous cat eye will stay until it’s time to wash it off at night!
